Diabetes : Types & Symptoms

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic illness that arises when the insulin is no longer produced by the pancreas, or because the body can not enable good use of the insulin it generates.

Insulin is a pancreatic hormone that functions as a key to allowing glucose from the food we consume to move from the bloodstream into the body's cells to generate energy. All foods made of carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. Insulin allows to pass glucose through the cells.

Different forms of diabetes can exist, and the type depends on how you manage the condition. Not all types of diabetes originate from an overweight person or living an unhealthy lifestyle. In reality, some are from infancy.

Types of diabetes

We can acquire three main forms of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic disease where insulin is released by the pancreas to a minimum. Insulin is a hormone required to enable the cells to enter sugar (glucose) to generate energy.

Symptoms

Symptoms and signs of type 1 diabetes can occur relatively suddenly, which may include:

  • Heightened thirst
  • Exhaustion and tiredness
  • Even urinating
  • Weight loss unexpected
  • Bed-wetting of kids who did not wet the bed during the night before
  • Extremely hungry
  • Irritability, among other changes in mood

Type 2: Diabetes

In type 2 diabetes, the body can't use insulin to carry glucose into your cells effectively. This makes the body rely on alternate sources of energy in your tissues, muscles, and organs. That is a chain reaction that can trigger effects in several different forms.
Type 2 diabetes is slow to develop.

Symptoms

At first the symptoms may be slight and simple to dismiss. The initial signs may include:
  • Continual hunger
  • A energy deficiency
  • Tiredness
  • Lacking weight
  • Mouth dry
  • The skin becomes itchy
  • Blurry sight

Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes, initially identified during pregnancy (gestation), is diabetes. Like certain forms of diabetes, gestational diabetes influences how sugar (glucose) is used in the cells. Gestational diabetes induces high blood sugar and may influence the health of your baby and your pregnancy.

Blood sugar typically returns to normal soon after delivery, in women with gestational diabetes. However if you have gestational diabetes you have a greater chance of having type 2 diabetes. You may need to get checked more often for increases in blood sugar.

Symptoms

Possible signs and symptoms may include:
  • Tiredness.
  • Vision blurry.
  • Nausea
  • Frequent infections in the bladder, vaginal, or skin.
  • Mouth dry
